IKN (beritajatim.id) – On Monday, August 12, 2024, the atmosphere at Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), was uniquely serene. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, was welcomed by ministers who had arrived earlier at the tranquil MBH Reservoir. This peaceful setting provided the backdrop for a meaningful yet relaxed morning gathering.
Upon arrival, President Jokowi joined his cabinet members for a walk around the reservoir. They were guided by Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, who explained the reservoir’s crucial role in supporting IKN’s sustainability. Under a clear morning sky, the group learned about the reservoir’s significance in the context of the new capital’s development.
President Jokowi expressed his desire for the cabinet to experience the fresh, clean air of IKN, noting that the air quality index was impressively low at just 6 out of a maximum of 50. “The air here is very fresh, clean, and healthy, which is great for longevity,” he told the media after the tour of MBH Reservoir.
After the reservoir walk, the group moved to the Sumbu Kebangsaan area, the main axis of the new city. Minister Basuki once again led the briefing, sharing the grand vision behind this central space, which is designed to symbolize national unity and progress. His enthusiasm highlighted how the Sumbu Kebangsaan would become a landmark of Indonesia’s aspirations.
The tour continued as President Jokowi led the ministers to the Presidential Palace, the seat of executive power in IKN. Before diving into further inspections, he invited the ministers for a group photo on the palace grounds, marking their commitment to realizing a modern and environmentally friendly capital.
Following the photo session, President Jokowi guided the ministers through the palace, showcasing key rooms that will soon serve as the hub of governmental activities. The ministers were visibly impressed by the design and facilities, reflecting a spirit of optimism and unity.
The morning’s activities concluded with a move to Garuda Palace, where the first plenary cabinet meeting in IKN was set to take place. Here, the ministers prepared to discuss crucial agendas, including the continuation of IKN’s development, the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), and the smooth transition of ministerial duties to the new administration.
President Jokowi summed up the day’s priorities, saying, “First, we will revisit the plans for IKN. Second, we’ll address the PMI. And third, other matters critical to this transition that need to be prepared by all ministries.”
