Jakarta (beritajatim.id) – Airlangga Hartarto’s resignation as Chairman of the Golkar Party has no connection to legal issues, according to Golkar Deputy Chairman Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung. Doli firmly denied public and media speculations linking Airlangga’s decision to step down with his legal status in ongoing investigations.
Speaking to the press, Doli emphasized that Airlangga’s resignation is purely personal, motivated by his desire to maintain the party’s unity and internal solidarity. He explained that Airlangga’s decision was also influenced by his significant role in ensuring a smooth transition of power as Indonesia prepares for a change in leadership from President Joko Widodo to the newly elected President Prabowo Subianto.
“This is a personal decision by Mr. Airlangga, who has chosen to focus on his role as Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, ensuring a smooth government transition from President Jokowi to President Prabowo,” Doli stated.
Doli also noted that Airlangga’s resignation was a result of careful consideration and discussions with his family, who supported his decision to step down from the top position in Golkar.
“I believe Mr. Airlangga has made the best decision for himself and the Golkar Party, and we must respect that. His decision was made after consulting with his family, including his siblings and children,” Doli added.
Doli urged the public not to associate Airlangga’s resignation with external factors, including legal issues or his role as a member of the Cabinet.
“In my opinion, we should not speculate further on the reasons behind his resignation, especially not linking it to other issues like legal matters. Mr. Airlangga has made his decision, and it deserves our respect,” Doli asserted.
Airlangga’s name had previously been linked to the corruption scandal involving crude palm oil (CPO) export permits during 2021-2022. The case, known as the cooking oil mafia scandal, was investigated by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). In July 2023, Airlangga was questioned as a witness. The case, which stemmed from a cooking oil shortage, resulted in the imprisonment of five individuals, including former Director General of Foreign Trade Indrasari Wisnu Wardhana and Lin Che Wie, a former expert staff member and advisor to Airlangga.
