Kapalong (beritajatim.id) – The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) has unveiled its third Peace Monument in Green Paradise Park, Kapalong City, Davao del Norte, Philippines. The inauguration ceremony on August 1st saw the participation of 250 attendees, including Kapalong City Mayor Maria Theresa Timbol and IWPG Secretary-General Na Hyung Jun.
This monument commemorates the Mindanao Peace Agreement, mediated by Heavenly Culture World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL) on January 24, 2014, and aims to perpetuate the spirit of peace. The first monument was established in Davao de Oro, followed by the second in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The establishment of the third Peace Monument was made possible through the support and commitment of Kapalong City. Mayor Timbol had met IWPG Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon at the 2023 International Women’s Peace Conference and pledged to erect the monument.
Mayor Timbol stated, “The IWPG Peace Monument serves as a reminder to everyone, especially women in Kapalong, that peace is achievable. Begin with peace within yourself, spread it to your family, and eventually, it will reach the wider community. Work together as one with peace.”
Green Paradise in Kapalong, once a symbol of crime, violence, and conflict, is now home to the IWPG’s third Peace Monument. This monument is expected to foster a “wind of peace” that will help spread a culture of peace globally.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the IWPG delegation engaged in various peace-promoting activities, including a Peace Lecturer Training Education (PLTE) orientation session and a media interview with Aliw Radio, further promoting IWPG’s peace initiatives and inspiring many.
IWPG Secretary-General Na Hyung Jun expressed hope that the monument will become a landmark in Kapalong, helping visitors overcome their disputes and recognize the value of peace. She also encouraged Filipino women to understand their worth and actively practice peace, aiming for the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) to be adopted as international law. (hdl)
